These heart-shaped ring dishes are so freaking cute! I used Valentine's Day as an excuse to make these but you can make these anytime.
I was inspired by this tutorial here!
Materials:
- polymer clay (6oz)
- X-Acto knife
- Paint brushes
- Rolling pin
- Acrylic paint (I used matte white, matte pink, burgundy, and rose gold)
- Liquid gilding (gold)
- Baking sheet
- Heart shaped cookie cutter (optional- see notes)
- Small bowl (optional)
Notes: If you do not have a heart-shaped cookie cutter, you can cut one of the clay using freehand but I am not very good at that stuff so I left it up to the cookie cutter.
Step One:
Preheat your oven based on the instructions on the back of the clay packaging. Cut off a small piece of clay* and roll it around in your hand to make it more workable. Roll the clay into a small ball (mine was about the size of a golf ball).
*The size of the clay basically depends on the size of the cookie cutter you're using.
Step Two:
Roll the clay out with the rolling pin until it is about 1/4" thick.
Step Three:
Using the cookie cutter, cut out a heart from the clay.
Step Four:
This step will depend on personal preference and how deep you want your dish to be. For my dishes, I laid the heart-shaped piece of clay on top of a smaller heart-shaped cookie cutter and pressed the centre in (to create a shallow dish). Alternatively, you can place the clay into a small (oven-safe) bowl (see below). I tried both methods and preferred the cookie cutter mold. Whatever you're using as a mold, place the whole thing (mold and clay) onto a baking sheet.
Step Five:
Bake as directed on the package.
Step Six:
When the dish is completely cool, feel free to paint it as you wish! Polka dots, hearts, xoxo's, or paint splatter. There are so many options.
Enjoy! xo
